Mines and Energy Ministry Highlights Significance of Women’s Contribution

December 5, 2024
In a powerful address, Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot Paye, underscored the vital role of women in all sectors, particularly in the workplace. Speaking at a program hosted by the Gender and Social Inclusion Unit (GSIU), Minister Paye emphasized the need for women to have equal rights and opportunities as their male counterparts to foster a better society.

Reflecting on his previous experience with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Minister Paye shared his commitment to combating violence against women and advocating for gender mainstreaming within the Ministry. He acknowledged the capacity of women to excel in all professional fields.

Martina Hosna-Janeta, Head of the GSIU, urged a shift from policy to action, calling for enhanced opportunities for women and girls in professional development. She also highlighted the necessity for accessible facilities in workplaces to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Deputy Minister for Administration, Eudora Blay-Pritchard, echoed these sentiments, advocating for a culture of tolerance and support for gender equity within the Ministry. She praised the GSIU for organizing a meaningful program that raised awareness about gender-based violence.

The event featured a vibrant parade, musical performances, and cultural displays, all aimed at promoting messages against gender bias. Presenters addressed pressing gender issues during an engaging Q&A session.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy's participation in the 2024 "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence" was highlighted as a significant achievement, marking a remarkable commitment to gender equity in Liberia.
