June 4, 2025-MONROVIA: WestCrest Ltd, a mineral exploration and development company owned by West26 PTE Ltd of Singapore. has made a presentation to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, aiming to transition to production if its proposal convinces the Ministry [MME] and the Government to grant them approval.
The Tuesday, June 3, 2025 presentation comprised accessing the technical and operational capacities of WestCrest-Liberia by authorities of the Ministry of Mines and Energy as the company has expressed interest of moving into a Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) with the Government of Liberia. The company is interested in Iron Ore production in Liberia, and has gone through several months of exploration. Their Executives said during the power-point presentation that WestCreast-Liberia has gathered reasonable resource estimate of mineral potential that can take them to production. The Exploration License covers areas in Grand Bassa, Bong, and Nimba Counties, with head office in Bong.
This MDA proposal will undergo appropriate scrutiny by the Mines and Energy Ministry before onward submission to the Executive Mansion for further verifications before the President of the Republic can submit same to the National Legislature for ratification and passage into law thus allowing WestCreast carry out Iron Ore production in Liberia.
Deputy Mines and Energy Minister for Operations, William Hines, who presided over the Presentation said, the Ministry’s scrutiny of the proposed MDA by WestCrest-Liberia will take into account their full readiness and preparation to handle production. Deputy Minister Hines noted that this is a technical exercise which will as well include field visits and verification of every important aspect of the company’s operational capacity.
Deputy Minister Hines noted that while the government welcomes interests of investors in the mineral sector which trigger-down benefit is job provision for the citizens to support livelihoods and boost the economy, the Ministry of Mines and Energy insists on getting it done properly without compromise and favoritism. Deputy Minister for Planning, Research and Development, Fahnseth Mulbah, and Assistant Ministers for Mines, Mineral Exploration and Environmental Research, and Planning, Carlos Edison Tingban, Oliver Gbegbe, and Emmanuel Vaye, respectively, participated in the technical exercise along with Geologists, Mining Engineers, and Environmentalists of the Mines and Energy Ministry.
