June 10, 2025-MONROVIA: The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) formally honored and retired twenty-six of its longest-serving employees; some of whom have dedicated as many as 46 years to the service of the Nation.
The occasion was marked by tributes, gratitude, and celebration of decades of institutional legacy.
The retirees included 25 men and one woman, the latter having served the Ministry for 20 years.
The rest of the honorees had careers spanning over two decades, many beginning their service in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
Their tenures have contributed significantly to the development and oversight of Liberia’s mining and energy sectors.
Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot J. M. Paye, delivered an emotional address at the ceremony, commending the retirees for their steadfast service.
“The privilege to serve one’s country is a towering honor a humbling opportunity that every citizen covets,” he said. “At the end of service, contributions should be acknowledged and appreciated. This is the motivation that inspires others to wish to serve their country.”
He reflected on the historical context of their service, noting the various political and economic transformations the Ministry has experienced over the decades.
“You are witnesses of every transformation, good or bad, positive or negative,” Minister Paye remarked. “But you leave with skills and knowledge that the mining industry and energy sector still need.”
