– MAY 29, 2026: Continuing his nationwide tour of mining locations across the Country, the Minister of Mines and Energy, R. Matenokay Tingban, has warned miners in Rivercess County against the use of dredges for gold recovery.

Speaking in an acquaintance gathering of his field staff in ITI, Rivercess County, the Mines and Energy Minister urged his team of Mining Agents, Mineral Inspectors, and the County Mine Officer, and the Resident Geologist, to be more vigilant in watching over mining operations in Rivercess.
He wants them make sure that no acts of producing or using dredges for gold mining takes place in any mining district. Minister Tingban thanked his Rivercess County Office headed by Lincoln Gbediah for confiscating a huge amount of contraband equipment illicit miners were using to violate the Minerals and Mining Law of Liberia. He encouraged them to do more of such compliance enforcement work.

Mining Agent Moses Atuanya, and other field staff in Rivercess were instrumental in successfully bringing that illegal mining activity under control. After the brief ITI acquaintance meeting, the Mines and Energy Minister then moved over to the exploration site of industrial gold mining company – Bea Mountain, which operates in Grand Cape Mount County. Bea Mountain’s exploration operations are being carried out through its subsidiary company – Global Logistics Mining Company (GLM).

The Minister toured facilities of the exploration site, inspecting the core-shells, and obtaining information on drilled holes, as well as sample analysis. The company informed Minister Tingban that they are proceeding well with their geo-technical work and said prospects are bright that the process will be successful to take them to full-scale mining.
Minister Tingban told Journalists traveling with his delegation that the Government of Liberia headed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., is seriously interested in jobs provision for the citizens, "and the mining sector has a huge potential in achieving that goal," he said. Expounding more on that, the Minister thanked GLM Exploration company for reporting the provision of more than 400 jobs for Liberians, with the Human Resource Manager [a female] being one of those. Such good number of jobs provision for Liberians is being done at a time when the GLM Mining Company is still in its exploration stage.
The exploration Minister – Assistant Minister for Mineral Exploration and Environmental Research, Sam Summerville, added his voice to Minister Tingban’s, urging the company to carry out its exploration operations in a safe and sustainable manner.

Assistant Minister Summerville reminded the company of its community relations responsibilities by ensuring that they and residents of the local community have peaceful co-existence. Responding to the community relations concerns, the company, through its authorities – Senior Geologist, Alper Buyuksolak, and Emmett Gbeahn [Liberian], reported to the Ministry of Mines and Energy that they and the community have a cordial relation and assured the Ministry that they will remain on course with that. The other Liberian playing a leading managerial role at GLM/Bea Mountain exploration site in ITI, Rivercess County, is Abel Osca Zeegar – a Senior Chemist operating the laboratory of the Company. Zeegar led Minister Tingban and delegation on a guided tour of the lab analysis facilities.

The Assistant Minister for Mines, Sumo Momolu, Director of Mines, Alwell Aloysius Carr, and the Director of Public Affairs, Richard Manuba, are members of Minister Tingban’s delegation, which also includes the Chief of Office Staff to the Minister, Timothy Woods. . On the compliance inspection tour, his team is being technically assisted by County Mine Officers, Mining Agents, Inspectors, and cooperation from authorities of the Ministry of Local Government.
